Our Story

Plaston Valley

For the birding enthusiasts, the White River-Plaston valley is famous among ornithologists for hosting pairs of the rare, crepuscular Bat Hawk (Macheiramphus alcinus). They use the tall, light-barked Sycamore Figs and mature Bluegum trees near water sources to nest and hunt bats at dusk. Around the farm dams, you will regularly encounter White-faced Whistling-Ducks, African Fish Eagles, various Kingfishers (like the Pied and Malachite), and Plovers. The flowering indigenous trees and manicured smallholdings attract Sunbirds, Woodpeckers, Tambourine Doves, and the Brimstone Canary

Welcome to Our Farm

Valley Nest Country Lodge is situated on the Versot Farm, just outside White River, Mpumalanga and sits within a highly productive, bio-diverse agricultural valley. This transitional ecological landscape is shaped by rolling hills, commercial orchards, and vital aquatic habitats.  The area forms part of the broader Crocodile River Valley catchment system and the local topography is characterised by undulating, gently sloping low hills and shallow valleys. The farm and its immediate surroundings feature small dams, natural wetlands and perennial streams. Because it is elevated slightly above the lower Plaston plains, Valley Nest Country Lodge provides sweeping, expansive views over the agricultural valley.
